What is Poke?
Poke (poe-kay)-Hawaiian for “to section” or “to slice or cut”, is a raw fish salad served as an appetizer in Hawaiian cuisine, and sometimes as an entrée.
It is Hawaiian’s king of food, definitely its soul food.
Today poke is popular not just in Hawaii but across the mainland. Poke in Hawaii is usually simple, pre-marinated and sold by weight. The main difference between “mainland poke” and “Hawaiian poke” is that mainland poke is “order to mix”, it is customizable! Many different bases, mix-ins, sauces and topping could be chosen to make endless combinations ending up a healthy, efficient and good valued meal with layers of flavors and textures. In addition to the traditional raw fish, chicken, tofu, cooked scallops, shrimp, etc. are alternative choices of proteins.
We fell in love with poke at the first bite and our vision is to bring the best poke from that island to our island. Our founder has years of working experience in one of the largest tuna fishing companies in the world, he works as a sushi master chef and currently owns his sushi restaurant for many years in Long Island. Poke has been heavily influenced by Japanese and other Asian cuisines. Our experience and background enables us the thorough and deep understanding of Poke from pole to bowl; also enables us the ability to expand our horizons by opening Island Poké.
With the passion towards perfection, each day we select the freshest, sustainable, sushi grade fish and all other seasonal, natural ingredients to create contemporary flavors while respecting to traditions.
Here we say: MAGIC BOWLS, ENDLESS DELICIOUSNESS!
